I think feminism has been misunderstood most of the time.

The dictionary defines feminism as:
1. The doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men.
2. An organized movement for the attainment of such rights for women.
3. Feminine character.

That's not quite the same thing.

-Feminism is a lot to do with assertion of rights, beliefs, freedom from patriarchy, and among other things, fighting against stereotypes and discrimination.
- Feminism is not about male bashing.
- Not all feminists are women and not all women are feminist.
- There are male feminists too.

  1. Amen to your sentiments! We voiced. Feminism is about recognition, acceptance and above all, RESPECT! Respect for women and for men. The respect of the worth of all regardless of gender, race, creed, class, sexual orientation or colour. Feminism has opened the door for the rights of many against the oppression from a few!

    Cheers.

  2. Robert, I think you were the only man standing the day Dr. Wickens asked the class if we were a feminist. I was really surprised because I had never heard of a man being a feminist.

What I’m trying to say is that you really opened up my eyes. So, thank you!!

  3. I think it is great that you wanted to clear this up. I think, today, feminism is different where you go. In Canada, most people would say that men and women are equal. Women today can be anything that they want to be, as well as men. I believe that feminism is not only about women but about people as a whole. We, ultimately, are all in this world together and we should treat people with respect equally. We also fight for equality between race, ability, and class. Although not everyone agrees with this, I think were just searching for acceptance.

  4. I wish we had more of people like you and Robert and others who are fighting for this cause.

Feminism differs in different parts of the world but we all fight for a fundamental right and thats FREEDOM!! I think you are right, "searching for acceptance" is in all of as human beings.
